I didn’t expect to read another book today; it just sorta happened.

The Buzzing by Jim Knipfel
Has-been reporter Roscoe Baragon likes to drink beer and watch old Japanese movies. Having fallen from “hard news” to personal interest stories focusing on the mentally ill and homeless, Baragon deals with a lot of people strongly subscribing to conspiracy theories. It was a quick afternoon read and, as a bonus, had a Night of the Hunter reference.

Here’s a quick excerpt — caution: spoilers.

‘Roscoe, listen to me — Godzilla vs. Megalon is not — I repeat, not — a documentary. . . . If you’re going to base some stupid conspiracy theory on a Japanese monster movie, why couldn’t you at least choose one with good villains? Like Monster Zero, or King Kong Escapes? The evil scientist in that one was pretty cool. Not some dork in a tiara.’ (216)

No more reading today. I promise.
