That’s half the reason I’m holding on.

All the dreams from this page occurred before the summer of 1993. Unlike current dreams, I haven’t bothered to type out the ones that are obviously just what I saw on TV that day or heard in school. Only dreams with a bit of creativity or amusement value are included. Asterisks separate dreams from different nights.

A little black boy told me something very important. I mentally reminded myself to remember it, but I forgot it when I woke up. He was leaning against a tree, wearing several layers of clothing. The tree was tall, shading the small house.

I lied to waitresses while trying to solve a mystery. I told them I was sick (I wasn’t) and all I had was a glass of water (truth). There were 2 iron pipes attached to the wall near a staircase. They looked like 2 checkmarks. I said it was a “w” and solved the mystery.

My mother came in and told me Suzanne (our cat) had died while driving the car.

I was in a health food store looking for Perrier with a squirt of lemon. I couldn’t get past the lemon-lime powdered stuff while in the store. I asked the old man how many more games the Pan-Am basketball team had to play. He told me 94. I said that wasn’t bad, “They’ve already played four.”

I kept trying on different shirts on a front porch. I tried to find one that didn’t say “I think my lifeguard is cute.” The lifeguard walked by and smiled as he made a sarcastic comment. I went in the house and up the stairs. There were two rooms: Jesse, furious, was sitting on an unmade bed in one and Erika was in the other on a made bed.

I was floating in a boat, suspended in the air. I was in the middle of Earth. In the middle of the sphere, I could look around and see ancient maps covering the horizons. I could read the names of some of the countries as I floated. I was with my hairdresser, whom I hated. I was so scared that I couldn’t look over the edge even though I kind of wanted to do so.

Erika, Jon, Zane, and I were on our way to the downtown library. We ended up walking downtown. We came to a huge river with several railroad and covered bridges. Suddenly, we were all swimming for our lives. Then I saw Jon and Zane sitting across from me: we were in a diner somewhere. Erika was gone. Zane put his arm around me and said, “It’s okay. We love other people than Erika.”

Erika filled up a bathtub and forgot to turn it off. Then I was holding on to Jon. He said, “You know what they’ll think.” I said, “That’s half the reason I’m holding on.”

My physical therapist left his newborn baby outside the elevator in a department store.

I was sitting in the middle of a mall, CW by my side. Mom hovered over me and said that no one would ever date me because I didn’t have a license. CW put his arm around me and asked what she’d do if he started going out with me right then and there. She said it would only be out of pity. CW ran away.

I was alone in the city. I stopped to buy some bottled water from a toothpaste store. They had a freezer holding waters. I asked if there was any difference and he said no. I took a bottle of Clearly Canadian, paid, and went to a jewelry store. I asked to see the diamond rings. I found one for $500, but after taxes it came to $2000. I wrote a hot check for it and left. I missed my bus, so I started to walk home. Night had fallen. I really wanted a hot dog, but I only had enough change for a bus ride. I walked past stores crying “sale.” I then discovered the ring was made out of sea salt. I didn’t want to go to the trouble of taking it back, but reassured myself that I got the fake ring for a fake check.

Amy (my siamese cat) and I went to an animal training school. They gave me a turtle; I named him Boxer. Everyone else’s turtle got slaughtered, but Boxer was too small. He also didn’t sound melodic when struck by mallets.

There were huge lines for the restroom. I had to wait for a friend to go. When she finally came, we headed to the gifted room. Jim V stood at the end of the line, so my friend talked to him. I looked for Erik, then for Boxer. Erik came down the ramp, so my friend and I ran through the snow. I went in the back door to school. Jon was shoving papers in the mail slot to the door of the gifted room. I asked Ms. E where I needed to be on my project while showing her a floral arrangment. “It’s nice, but what’s it in?” she asked. It was in a square box, but she insisted that I “get a nice basket.” I looked all over the room and found a pink and blue one. I held it up and she said it would do. I never saw her, but she was in the shadows.

I saw Chris J’s Porshe with no hood on. The body was rusting badly. I saw this while I was waiting in the 13th St. lot for my car. Somehow I ended up in a room with Karrie. I was showing her some drawings I had done. She seemed to approve. Amber’s boyfriend Jeff came into the room and asked me to follow him. He told me he wanted me to fill out some forms. I started to walk out of the room, asserting that “I don’t want to play doctor with you, Jeff.” He said, “It’s not for me, it’s for them.” A pregnant teenager and her boyfriend appeared. All I remember of the form is for the question “title?” I wrote “Empress of the World” and for “where do you live?” I wrote “mostly Europe.”
